Trade Journal
The Trade Detail view is your post-mortem laboratory. Once a trade is closed, it is not enough to simply know if you won or lost; you must understand how the trade developed. This module combines institutional-grade charting with qualitative journaling to create a permanent record of your performance.
Trade Journal: The Complete User Guide
1. The Dashboard Header (Snapshot Metrics)
The top section provides an immediate, high-level financial summary of the completed trade.
Asset Class
The ticker symbol and direction (LONG/SHORT) are clearly displayed.
Net P&L
The final profit or loss after all executions and commissions.
Avg ROI
The Return on Investment percentage, calculated against your position size.
Duration
The exact time delta between your first entry and final exit (e.g., "Intraday" or specific days).
Position Size
The total quantity of shares or contracts traded.
2. The Analytics Engine (Chart & Replay)
The center of the screen features an interactive, multi-layered visualization tool designed to replay the lifecycle of your trade.
The Visual Layers
- Price Action: The main chart displays Candlestick data for the underlying asset. Blue (Buy) and Orange (Sell) arrows mark your exact execution points.
- Volume: Displayed at the bottom of the main chart, visualizing liquidity during your trade.
- Running P&L: The bottom panel displays a line graph of your unrealized P&L throughout the trade. This helps you visualize "heat"—did you hold through a drawdown? (Green Fill = Profit, Red Fill = Drawdown).
Data Fidelity
If you traded an option, we overlay the actual historical pricing of that specific contract.
If option data is unavailable, or for equities, the system calculates a synthetic P&L based on the underlying stock price.
The Replay Room
You can relive the trade bar-by-bar to analyze your psychological state.
- • Controls: Use the toolbar to Play, Pause, or Reset the timeline.
- • Speed: Adjust playback speed (1x to 10x).
- • Timeframes: Toggle between 1m, 5m, and 15m resolution.
- • Fullscreen: Click the expand icon to enter "Focus Mode".
3. Execution & Financial Data
The left-hand panel provides the raw accounting data for the trade.
- The Tape: A chronological table of every partial fill and execution, including timestamp, side, quantity, and price.
- Cost Basis: A clear breakdown of your Average Entry Price vs. Average Exit Price.
- Friction: The "Commissions" row highlights how much fees impacted your Gross P&L.
4. Qualitative Analysis (The Journal)
Numbers only tell half the story. The bottom section is where you record the "Why."
Strategy & Notes
- Strategy Playbook: Select a strategy from your Playbook (e.g., "Morning Breakout") to tag this trade. This feeds into your "Insights" analytics.
- Trader's Notes: A free-form text area to record your thoughts, emotions, or market context.
Performance Tagging
This system uses a dual-tagging mechanism to identify behavioral patterns.
5. Saving Your Analysis
After reviewing the chart and adding your notes, click the SAVE CHANGES button at the bottom right. This commits your forensic analysis to the database, updating your specialized reports in the Insights module.
