Prop Desk

The Prop Desk is OpenTrades’ institutional-grade social environment. It allows users to form virtual trading firms, pool performance data into a "Virtual AUM," and compete in a private environment.

Firm Structure

Portfolio Manager (PM)

The creator of the desk. Can invite users, kick members, and manage desk settings.

Analyst / Partner

Standard member. Can view the wire, post memos, and appear on the leaderboard.

The Internal Wire

A secure, real-time communication feed exclusive to desk members. Designed for high-signal chatter.

  • Flash Alerts: Mark urgent messages (e.g., "Shorting TSLA now").
  • Sentiment Polling: React to messages to gauge firm sentiment without cluttering chat.
  • Threaded Replies: Keep conversations organized.

The Complete User Guide

The Prop Desk is OpenTrades’ institutional-grade social trading environment. It allows users to form virtual trading firms, pool performance data into a consolidated "Virtual AUM," and compete or collaborate in a private, secure environment. Whether you are running a mentorship group, a competitive trading team, or a casual study group, the Prop Desk provides the infrastructure to manage your floor.

1. The Hub: Access & Firm Management

The Prop Desk Hub is your central terminal for managing firm memberships and discovering new desks.

Establishing a New Firm

  1. Navigate to the Prop Desk Hub.
  2. Click the START FIRM button in the top right.
  3. Firm Name: Enter a unique, professional name for your desk.
  4. Strategy/Motto: A short tagline describing your trading style (e.g., "High Frequency Scalpers").
  5. Click LAUNCH. You are now the Owner/PM of this desk.

Joining an Existing Firm

Method A: Search & Request

Search the database for a desk name. Click a result to open the Firm Dossier to see their equity curve. If satisfied, click Request to Join.

Method B: Access Code

If a desk owner sent you a private code, click JOIN W/ CODE in the top right, enter the Invite Code, and click JOIN FIRM.

2. The Trading Floor: Dashboard & Analytics

Once inside a desk, you enter the Trading Floor. This is a real-time command center visualizing the collective performance of all partners.

Virtual AUM

The collective account balance of all partners combined. The progress bar tracks the firm's growth.

Net Profit (MTD)

The total Month-to-Date profit generated by the desk.

Alpha Distribution

A doughnut chart visualizing which members are contributing the most to the firm's total PnL.

The Leaderboard

  • • Members are ranked by realized PnL.
  • • The desk owner is identified by a "PM" tag.
  • • Termination: Desk owners can remove a partner by hovering over their name and clicking the X icon.

3. The Internal Wire: Secure Communication

The Internal Wire is a secure, real-time communication feed exclusive to desk members. It is designed for high-signal trading chatter, not noise.

  • Posting & Alerts: Type your message in the bottom input bar. Click the Bell Icon before sending to mark it as a High Priority Alert (displayed in red). Use this for urgent trade calls.
  • Interactions: Click "Reply" to thread your response. Hover over a message to React with emojis for quick sentiment polling.

4. Administrative Controls

Headhunting (Inviting Users)

Grow your firm by recruiting other traders:

  1. Click the HEADHUNT button in the header.
  2. Type the username of the trader. The system will display their PnL.
  3. Select the user and click SEND OFFER.

Copy Invite Code

Locate the Code: displayed next to the desk title. Click the code box to copy it to your clipboard for quick sharing.

Resignation

If you wish to leave a firm, click the RESIGN button in the header. Your historical data will remain, but you will lose access to the Wire immediately.
